Classroom
Demonstrations
The SWCD provides educational natural resource programs
to schools and groups in Winnebago County. Skip the hassle of planning
an expensive field trip when SWCD staff will travel to you while
providing all the materials needed for programs. We offer classroom
presentations, group assemblies, serve as guest speakers at functions or
as assistants in hands-on projects. Program topics include but are not
limited to rain barrels and gardens, groundwater, watersheds, aquatics,
soils, forestry, recycling/composting, prairies and the Illinois State
Symbols. A fee of $2.00 per participant is requested for single
class/group programs and is reduced to $1.00 per participant if multiple
presentations are given or involving larger groups. The fee is not
applicable to supervisory adults present at youth programs. Programs
are limited to no more than three hours. Staff will consult with you to
get the most out of your program. Programs are conducted Monday through
Friday, between the hours of 8am and
4:30pm
and can be either indoors or outdoors, depending on the season and
topic. For a complete list of programs, click on the educational
program menu below. If you are interested in requesting a program,

Northeastern Illinois Envirothon
What is the
Envirothon?
The
Envirothon is an exciting, fun way for high school students to learn about the
environment. It combines in-class curriculum with hands-on field
experiences, while demonstrating the role people have in important environmental
issues, such as forestry and wildlife management, water quality, and soil
erosion.
At the
completion of the year-long learning process, the Envirothon conducts a series
of competitions where students are tested on five subjects: soil,
aquatics, wildlife, forestry and a specific environmental issue, which changes
from year to year.
Each
county will have a top scoring winner, with the highest scoring team from event
going to the Illinois Envirothon in May. The winning team from the
Illinois Envirothon will compete in July at the National Competition. For
more information go to www.envirothon.org..
The Northeastern Illinois
Envirothon has also entered into a partnership with the Community Foundation of
Northern Illinois. Donations are tax-deductible. For information on
how to donate contact Melisa at the District office. The Community
Foundation can be found at www.cfnil.org or
by calling (815) 962-2110.
